Frontier Air Strip..

Since the best thermal site in the area was probably inaccessible because of this weekend's freak May snowfall, Dave and I elected to fly the DoodleBugs again.. Turned out to be a reasonable option..

After working our way out of the ARL traffic area, we headed south along the east rim of the valley and thermalled to cloudbase at 4,700 feet..

This image was taken immediately above Frontier Air Field while looking east towards Granite Falls and Mount Pilchuck..

Lake Stevens..

There were sailplanes everywhere out here.. The Arlington training area was in full operation today.. With strong thermal conditions, great visibility and plenty of room, the extra company was no problem..

The lake in the distance is Lake Stevens and the small lake next to it is Lake Cassidy.. I also got an image of Marysville..  But the details are blurry and the horizon line is crooked.. I'm sure I'll get an opportunity to do better soon..

Now Go North..

After milling around the area long enough for the first stages of hypothermia to develop, I began to think about making my way back to the north.. There were good clouds all the way so the trip was quite easy..

Look close and you may be able to make out the details outlining the snowed-in cliff launch on Frailey Mountain..

Ebby Hill..

The day just kept getting better and better.. The lift was everywhere and I reached a chilly 5,000 feet before I just could not take the cold any longer..

I flew into the best thermal of the day way out over the flatlands.. Solid 1,000 FPM up with a nice looking cloud at the top..

I need warmer gloves..!
