Wheeling My Way to CloudBase..

Wow..! Unbelievable day.. I flew to wheeler twice today.. Once it was not so good.. And once it was very good.. I took this shot on the trip over that was very good..

Not too long before this trip over, I was down to 900 feet out on Ebbey Hill.. No way was I going to give up and it paid off with enough altitude to squeak over to the north side of the valley where I took a nasty lee side thermal back up to altitude..

The valley looks distinctly different from this vantage point..

The air is a little bit less friendly here as well.. I'm not sure why that is though.. It may be that Wheeler just wants to make an impression on new visitors..

I guess he doesn't remember me from the last time..

Jim Creek Station..

The Navy's huge ULF antenna array stretches all along the upper rim of the Jim Creek drainage..

I have serious reservations about flying into that area.. For one, the amount of power that it must take to drive that big of an antenna must be tremendous; I'd probably get fried.. The other problem might be that the DOD security patrols may question my motives..

Whitehorse was getting dumped on by a huge gathering squall.. I had been in the air for more than three hours so I elected to go out and land.. I just had to make one last cruise out to the front of Ebbey hill though..

I just can't resist a glory pass..
