Squall After Squall..

We got up the hill way too early today.. The morning sunshine quickly digressed into a series of soft hail squalls that slowly marched across the area one after another..

In between the pelting, two frozen launch trolls appeared at the cliff..

Snow Covered Peaks..

In the big mountains to the north, the persistent precipitation crowned the peaks with a snow-white mantle..

The unstable atmosphere enshrouded the mountains for most of the afternoon.. But when the clouds dissipated for brief glimpses, the view was describable only by this type of imagery..

Mostly Cloudy
or Partly Sunny..?

This image, taken late in the flight, points out that for today the description "mostly cloudy" was the more accurate of the two..

The base of the clouds was at four thousand feet.. With the north component in the upper level winds, I was able to sneak behind a friendly cloud and climb up a few hundred feet above cloudbase..

I guess waiting for four hours in order to get an hour and a half of airtime makes some sort of twisted sense.. When I figure out why I do it, I'll let you know..

But until then, you'll just have to wonder about my sanity.. I know I do..
