Oops..!

Another windy day at Blanchard Hill today.. After an uneventful launch into moderately strong air, I beat my way over to Chuckanut Mountain.. The wind was crossing a few degrees from the north so the trip over was a grunt..

Since I had positioned myself a little too deep beside the west face of Chuckanut, the last few minutes were particularly stressful.. Pounding through laminar venturi conditions and getting down to 1,200 feet held my attention..

Fair Skies..

Scott and I spent a couple of hours making the drive.. At one point, after climbing to 5,200 feet in the wave, we got pelted by a soft hail squall..

Once again though, the bitter cold of early spring crept into my gear and made an otherwise pleasant afternoon a hypothermic dance with the wind from the west..

My thermometer read 33 degrees at and above 5,000 feet..

Blanchard Hill..

This view of Blanchard Hill is quite different from the usual treetop cruising imagery that you may have seen time and time again.. I was really cold and decided to make this glory pass on my way out to the landing area..

There were a couple of gliders in the air down there and it appeared that they were doing well in this afternoon's freshening breeze..

I was fascinated by the colors and the textures of dark and light..
