The Day After..

I couldn't handle it.. The day after missing out on what turned out to be a great day at Rampart, I spent a frantic morning trying to get a plan worked out to fly.. All of the Rampart faithful had squandered their time on yesterday.. But, Rick W. and I made the trip..

The wind was a bit of a factor.. Especially on launch.. With no wire assistance available, we elected to drive back down and hike-in to the lower launch.. We bailed into a slight crosswind and climbed easily to the cliffs..

Afternoon Shadows..

In some recent pilot photos, I had seen the potential for some great shots of the shadowed areas behind the rocks..

I made some amount of effort to get that effect.. I think that I would have had to stay in the air for at least another hour to get the best contrast..

No way though.. I was so cold that I had to land when I began to shiver uncontrollably..

Local Pilot..

Just before the cold really set into my bones, a local pilot and one of his friends made their way up to around 7,500 feet to join in the fun.. It appeared that he had a better coat than I did..

As the small hawk passed close by my starboard wing, he glanced at me and let out a shrill laugh..

I think he could tell that I was freezing..

Dark Shadows..

What a great day.. Well worth the effort.. At first, things looked grim.. Wind on the lake.. Wind at the upper launch..

Then, there was lower launch..
