They're Here..

After getting a little beat-up early in the flight, the bad boys came out to play..

The first real playmate started from below the hill as a nasty little lee-side devil and then turned into a bar brawling "E"-ticket ride..

Later on, Mike and I hooked up with the real deal.. Mountain rockets at their finest.. Do not try this at home..!

Can you see Blanchard Hill..

It makes no sense to fly a south facing hill on an obvious north wind day.. But, you know what they say; either "ignorance is bliss" or "no brains, no headaches".. Sometimes both may apply..

I found it interesting that to stay with the lift, you had to drift up the face until you got above the hill.. Then the drift took a turn to the south until you got up into the east wind above the shear layer..

Across the Valley..

Mike and I cruised across the valley in search of "something completely different".. He took the direct route while I elected to ride the high ground to get ahead of the valley-flow before crossing..

My experience is that in stabilizing atmospheric conditions, the thermal is most likely out in front over here rather than back over the top of Ebey Hill.. When Mike drove out front to meet me, it became apparent that today was that kind of day..

Here's a Tip for You..

After a slow starting season, I think I'm a bit out of shape for big air.. While today was not as big as it gets, my sore muscles may thank me for taking a day or two off..

The weather idiots seem to think that Wednesday will be the next good day..
