Spring Green..

At long last, spring has begun to take hold here in the northwest region.. You can see in the lower right corner, at the sharp bend in the south fork of the Stilliguamish, the dairymen are making the first cut into their next winter's life blood..

Launching into an obvious west wind, the dive across the bowl was an interesting demonstration in micrometeorology applied in a real world application..

Wow..!

There's Always the Lake..

After the bowl dive to the west, I hooked up with a drifting little piece of scrap that took me climbing back to the east past launch and to cloudbase over the east end of the hill.. The rest of the flight, the best lift was way out in front..

There was even that cool convergence thermal that blasts off from the mountain that lies immediately southwest of Frailey Mountain.. That one was the nicest and smoothest of the day..

To the East..

The valley out in front of the hill remained in shade most of the afternoon.. There were significant sunny areas however, that allowed enough solar heating to bubble up the sky..

The Big Wheel..

Wheeler Mountain, and all of the other high peaks in the area still shelter remnants of this winters frozen crystal..

There is always a good cloud over Wheeler.. I really want to get there again [click here to see 4/21/01]..
