Making the Drive..

Dave and I ignored the rain and drove up to the hill this afternoon.. We motored through the convergence zone and broke out into the sunshine just as soon as we dropped down into the Skagit Valley..

With a strong west wind, there was no problem climbing up and and over to Chuckanut Mountain.. Looking back at Blanchard Hill, you can almost see the remaining gliders perched in the set-up area..

Convergence Zone..

The sky to the south remained ominous and dark throughout the afternoon.. The occasional airborne precipitation drifted in from the west.. But, we never got wet and it appeared that the downfall never made it to the ground..

If your monitor quality and resolution settings are adequate, you should be able to see some decent wind lines moving through the bay..

Lummi Island..

Just visible beyond Lummi Island and Rosario Strait, a small sliver of Clark Island peeks out from behind the north end of Lummi Peak.. Further out to the northwest, towards the Strait of Georgia, Matia Island, Sucia Island, and Patos Island appear as small stepping stones to Boundary Pass..

Beyond Boundary Pass lies the Gulf Islands and Saltspring Island of British Columbia, Canada..

Frozen Crystalline..

The view north into Bellingham was fantastic.. Most of my flight was spent in this area over Larabee State Park.. Chuckanut Island and Chuckanut Rock serve as steadfast protectors of Chuckanut Bay.. [that's too much Chuckanuts..!]

I was very cold at this point.. I did make the effort to remove my hand from my bar-mitt to get this image of a snow squall that was dumping on the east end of Bellingham ..

Parting Shot..

When it's honking wind, it's usually good here.. The landing area can be interesting though..

Another cool (er... cold) day at Blanchard Hill.. Or was it at Chuckanut Mountain..
