Cliff Diving..

There was an excellent turn out for the 2001 version of the Rampart Fly-in.. While Saturday was rained out, Sunday proved to be a great day of flying..

Lenticular clouds filled the surrounding skies and intermittently blocked out the sun overhead as well.. Even with the limited direct sunlight, Rampart came through with flying colors..

Circle-Up..

Initially, climbs were decent up to around 6,500 feet.. Other pilots may have been higher than that though.. I got up and elected to try my luck at the big wall..

Shade Thermals..

This image was taken during a period of mostly obscured sunlight.. As you can see by the bank angles of the circling gliders, the lift was still working quite well..

As the shade persisted however, the diminished climb rates on the hill brought everyone down into survival mode..

"R" Wall..

Rampart Ridge has got to be one of the best late summer/early fall flying sites in the state.. When all of the elements come together, the flying and the views are unbelievable..

I'll be back for more "Vitamin-R"..
