Tree Hugging..

Another unexpected day at Blanchard Hill.. Instability is always a good thing.. There was almost zero wind.. But the thermal cycles had just started up when I arrived at 3:45..

A few hang gliders had already floated their way down to the LZ while a couple of para-bouys made good use of the light lift..

Receding Tide..

The bay was mirror smooth today.. Usually a bad sign for the prospect of soaring.. The age old Blanchard credo, "the wind lines are getting closer" did not even enter the minds of anyone on launch.. 

Low tide exposed the mud flats.. Bad idea landing there... Unless you like waist deep mud..

Spring Green..

The fresh green of spring is a sure sign that another season of soaring is upon us.. I was lucky to have grabbed a nasty little thermal from down low and rode it up over the top..

Unfortunately, a few hundred feet over was not enough altitude to maintain through the gaps in the lift..

Mirror Bay..

I know it's called Samish Bay.. This afternoon's classic Blanchard shot is titled Mirror Bay for obvious reasons..
